A challenged January

A few of us in the blog world have been talking about how we all need a little extra motivation to get 2013 kicked off right, so I've been thinking a bit about this notion of a "challenge" and I really want this to be about going back to the basics for me. Every single time I lose my rhythm, I've gotten it back by asking myself this -

When I first started out and I was really successful, what was I doing?

So I thought about it and I really have TWO challenges for 2013 that I want to introduce. These are challenges to myself, but I also welcome any of you to join me (even those of you who just read and don't actually blog yourself).

Challenge #1 - Establish a routine

Easier said than done, I know, but they said it takes 21 days of repetitive activity to establish a routine - I need to get that back. So pick something, anything, that you feel like you need to be better about. Working out, bringing your own lunch to work, whatever. Plan it, commit to it, and achieve it. You'll be amazed at the difference.

Challenge #2 - Waste it or waist it

This is probably one of my favorite sayings in the weight loss world and yet I forget about it all too often. This is really more of a mini challenge - but I challenge you to keep this phrase in your mind at every meal. It's OKAY to throw food away or pack it up as leftovers. You don't have to clean your plate. If you're not hungry, don't eat it. Simple as that.

The prize here is simple, and you won't get it if you cheat at the challenges - you reclaim your healthy lifestyle.

Plan it - Over the next month, I'm going to plan on working out every day with 1 optional rest day a week if I feel like I need it and I will be mindful of eating appropriate portions regardless of what is left on my plate.
