Moving forward & eating clean

Sorry I've been so mopey over the past 2 weeks while I was sick. I'm generally feeling better, except for constant fatigue which I guess should be expected with mono.

After my last post, you guys scared me, but you also forced me to deal with and accept the reality that I need to take it easy and listen to my body otherwise I risk making my recovery that much worse.

In the past I've been so active that I've been able to get away with occasionally eating whatever I want, but I've realized that in light of my health situation I will have to re-assess my "diet". I hate using that word, because I don't really believe in diets, I believe in lifestyles. However, I also acknowledge that over the next few weeks to potentially month(s) I am not going to be as active as I want to be, and therefore need to work extra hard to keep my eating in check.

So...I've decided I'm going to focus on trying to eat as cleanly as possibly. I've been reading a lot about the paleo diet (which largely focuses on eating food that was also available in caveman days), and above anything else I'm really curious about the way it makes people FEEL. Several things I read said after following a paleo diet for a month, people loved the way they felt so much that they didn't miss processed foods or other things they had to give up. I'm not really going paleo, but I'm going to use that concept as my inspiration to try to cut out the junk in my life and focus on eating natural foods.

Who's eating clean? Anything you like or don't like? How do you get away from the convenience of processed/pre-packaged foods?

  1. Thank you for your lovely comment on my blog. It's great to read that you are going clean. It can be a little bit of a culture shock. I didn't find it was straight away but slowly temptations were put in my way and those naughty cravings kick in. But you've got to stick with it and think about why you are doing it. It means a lot that you see me as an inspiration and I will help in anyway I can. If you want any recipes just ask. I blogged photos of all the food I cooked last week. If you have Instagram follow me I regularly post pictures of my clean meals. I was the same eating a little of what I wanted regularly because I was working out and working it into my plan. But I've come to realise that if I want the body I desire there is no point busting my ass off with intense workouts if I'm not putting the work in. It's 30% exercise and 70% diet for flat abs and a lean body. Though as you know I let myself off for one night a week as I just blogged about it because it keeps me sane. I'll help and support you anyway I can. You are one of my biggest supporters, motivators and inspirations in the blogging community :) xxxx

  3. I try to eat clean, too. For those times when I can't, I always have a napkin around. Sorry, I had to do that. :) I've read about paleo a little bit and I don't know a ton about it, but I think you can't eat very much fruit. I don't know if I could live without fruit! My eating plan is to try to basically eat anything that comes from the earth in its most natural form. The hardest part for me is finding the time to prep and cook everything. When I get really busy, that's when I find myself climbing back on the processed food wagon.

  4. You are going to be fine. If I remember correctly, I lost a lot of weight when I had mono! Rest, rest, rest. I know it's hard.

  7. I've been eating cleanish for the past 2 months or so. When I do eat clean, I feel so much better. My skin looks & feels nicer and I have more energy. It's easy to get processed food but it's not healthy. I would suggest you check out tosca reno's eat clean diet book. Very easy to read and interesting. She has a lot of menu ideas and a clean eating plan that you can follow. At first it was difficult but it's worth it and then you get used to it. if you want recipes, also check out clean eating magazine. I've blogged about eating clean on my blog... http://adirtymartinikindofgirl.blogspot.com/search/label/eat%20clean
